Game Changer: Female Facilities Community Campaign – Bayside City Council
Bayside City Council identified that the lack of existing facilities that support female participation was a significant issue for them. With 27 sporting pavilions, 50 sports clubs, 1300 teams and 20,000 club members, only 80 per cent of Bayside’s pavilions predate 1960 and 96 per cent don’t have appropriate change facilities for women.

New child safe standards for Victorian sporting and recreation clubs
As of 1 January, 2017 sporting and recreation clubs operating in Victoria and providing services or facilities specifically for children are required to meet Child Safe Standards. Child Safe Standards are designed to drive cultural change and embed a focus on child safety by placing children’s rights at the forefront of the organisation’s mind.
Anyone for world-first croquet?
Australia to host Golf Croquet World Championships for the first time in history Come along and see the game of croquet played at its absolute finest when the World Croquet Federation’s Golf Croquet World Championships come to Australia for the first time at the end of February. Around 80 players from 14 countries will converge in Melbourne from Feb 25 to March 5 for the 12th annual World Championships, which are held every two years in a nominated country and attract the best names in the sport.

The first round of VicHealth’s new-look Active Club Grants will offer more sport opportunities for women and girls, and social or modified sport programs across the state, through $400,000 in funding to get people moving in fun, flexible and social environments.
Ausplay – participation data for the sport sector
The Australian Sport Commission (ASC) recently released the results of the Ausplay survey – a large scale national population tracking survey funded and led by the ASC. This is great news for the sport sector, as there has been a lack of up-to-date national participation data since the release of the ABS Sport and Recreation: A Statistical Overview, Australia in 2012 and the ASC’s Participation in Exercise, Recreation and Sport (ERASS) in 2010.
