Sport Jam - That's a Wrap!
You’ve probably noticed over the last few months we have been promoting “Sport Jam”, as part of the 2017/18 Forward Thinking Series.
We are thrilled to share that Sport Jam was a remarkable success on Wednesday 21 and Thursday 22 March, with 75 attendees across a variety of sports, Local Government Authorities, State Sporting Associations and Regional Sport Assemblies.
Held at the Sandridge Events Centre (home of the Port Melbourne Football Club), the two-day industry wide co-design event gave people an opportunity to be innovative with their ideas and concepts all in the name of drumming up new ways to increase participation in sport.
In small working groups of nine, each group was assigned a team captain to lead and facilitate the discussion working towards a five-minute presentation scheduled at the end of day two.
Out rolled the butchers paper, permanent markers and post-it notes. Everyone got creative. Two days out of the office was exactly what the doctor ordered for these keen sport enthusiasts, and to be surrounded with like-minded people working towards the same goal made the two days fly by.
The presentation ceremony was fun, with many teams using role plays to communicate their ideas surrounding the following target groups:
- Building physical literacy in children
- Engaging girls aged 15-17 in sport
- Creating tailored sport opportunities for teenagers, including those from CALD communities
- Using sport as a way to enhance the mental health of new parents
- Improving the health of adults aged 60-75
Watch a video testimony from Helen Tyrikos, Program Development Coordinator (women and girls) at Football Federation of Victoria about her experience at Sport Jam. Helen speaks about the difference in ideas that were brought to the table from the group.
Sport Jam was supported by VicHealth, and to keep the momentum of innovative ideas going, VicHealth have an Innovative challenge opening on Tuesday 3 April. There's $450,000 up for grabs! For more information click here.
