In recent times, governance has rapidly become a matter of significant concern for executives of sporting organisations.
Sport in Australia, and particularly Victoria, is going through a significant period of change regarding governance, board diversity and the expectations of board members. With this in mind, each year many sporting organisations undertake their AGM with minor changes to director recruitment, election and induction processes.
With the introduction of the Mandatory Board Quotas 18 months away, organisations will be required to have a minimum of 40% women on boards to be eligible for certain streams of government funding.
Bridie O’Donnell, inaugural Head of Victoria’s Office for Women in Sport and Recreation will share her thoughts on the importance of diversity and gender equality on Boards at Vicsport’s Building Effective Boards event on 21 February 2018. This event is aimed at strengthening governance practices for State Sporting Associations, Regional Sport Assemblies and State Sport Representative Bodies to prepare for the incoming Mandatory Board Quotas on 1 July 2019.
Building Effective Boards will focus on how organisations can enhance and strengthen their practices around director recruitment, appointment and induction processes to prepare for the incoming quotas.
Even if your organisation already meets the quotas, this event will give you an insight on how to implement stronger practices to ensure your board members meet your skills and diversity requirements.
This event is suitable for people who currently sit on Boards or are individuals involved in the election, recruitment and induction of Board members at your organisation.
