As sporting administrators we are trying to encourage local clubs and associations to make healthier choices. It is important that we lead by example and practice what we preach. This was the main theme at the recently held Vicsport Professionals Network (VPN) - Making Healthy Easy: Cooking Masterclass.
Delivered by the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Graden Foundation (SAKGF), the individuals who attended the event learnt how to prepare a number of easy, fresh meals, that were both tasty and healthy. The ingredients used in the dishes were grown on sight at the Collingwood College community garden. The foundation is about 'pleasurable food education' and building healthy habits for life, and the fact that it is never too late to start. These positive habits will allow sporting administrators as we continue to make local sporting clubs and associations healthier places.
Divided into five groups, with a mix of self-proclaimed confident cooks and those who were not too confident, team prepared the following meals:
- Wok tossed vegetables with chicken
- Beetroot with shiitake mushrooms
- Smoked trout with Tuscan kale, Broccolini & Miso dressing
- Japanese seeded brown rice salad
- Okonomiyaki (Japanese pancakes)
