VICSPORT LAUNCH ‘FORWARD THINKING SERIES’ IN PARTNERSHIP WITH VICHEALTH

Vicsport to deliver a series of ‘forward thinking’ events to support the community sport industry develop cutting edge ideas on how to get more people active through sport.

The Forward Thinking Series will be launched on February 17 with session run by one of Australia’s leading social innovation agencies.

The business of community sport is changing and getting people active through sport is becoming more challenging.

Lifestyle changes, shifting work-life balance and diversifying entertainment options have contributed to major shifts in how, when and where people want to play sport and get active. Consumers are demanding more individualised and flexible participation options. Advances in technology, social media and the rise of fitness products are allowing people to connect, consume and participate in sport and physical activity on their own terms.

At the same time Australia is facing an inactivity crisis. Not enough people are physically active and Australians’ health and well being is suffering. Funding bodies, government agencies and commercial partners are looking for innovative and impactful responses. There is a demand for ideas that can get more people active, more often and in a more cost effective manner.

Cutting edge thinking, innovation and collaborative approaches are required to ensure community sport remains relevant, sport organisations are sustainable and more Victorians enjoy the substantial health, well being and social inclusion benefits that come from getting active through sport.

Vicsport is partnering with VicHealth to present a series of activities over 2015 aimed at building the capacity of the sport and active recreation industry to respond to this rapidly changing marketplace and develop cutting edge ideas to get more people active through sport.

The Forward Thinking Series will provide opportunities for state sport associations, regional sport assemblies and local government teams to connect with start-ups, social entrepreneurs and leading thinkers in and outside the sport industry. The Forward Thinking Series will be facilitated by some of Victoria’s leading social innovators and collaborative thinkers.

The first event in the series will be an ‘Insight and Innovation Lab’ aimed at building capability to innovate in the changing business of community sport. The session will be held on February 17 at the iconic Drill Hall located in the Melbourne CBD near the Queen Victoria Markets.

Forward Thinking Series sessions will be held on the following dates:

  • Forward Thinking Series Session 1 - Tuesday 17 February
  • Forward Thinking Series Session 2 – Thursday 19 March
  • Forward Thinking Series Session 3 – Tuesday 28 April
  • Forward Thinking Series Session 4 – Tuesday 16 June
