VAAP regional seminars in 2019

Vicsport Participation Strategy Manager Tom Dixon is a member of the Victorian Active Ageing Partnership (VAAP) coordination team. The VAAP is a project led by Musculoskeletal Australia (MSK) which aims to increase opportunities for participation in physical activity for older Victorians, especially in areas of socio-economic disadvantage and among isolated, lonely older people not currently involved in physical activity.

Vicsport strongly encourages sport organisations to connect with the VAAP. Initiatives within the project include an organisational self-assessment tool, forums, a handy research framework applicable to sport, and much more!

The VAAP is convening six regional seminars in the first half of 2019. Staff, managers and volunteers involved in the delivery of physical activity opportunities (including active recreation and sport) for older people are encouraged to attend. This includes from settings and organisations such as community health, fitness/leisure, sport, local government, neighbourhood houses, Men’s Sheds, U3As amongst others.

The seminars aim to inform attendees of various strategies and tools to assist them in their work engaging older people in physical activity, as well as promote local information-sharing and networking.
