First round of Vicsport Innovation Lab projects launched

Vicsport is excited to announce that the first two projects accepted into the Vicsport Innovation Lab have recently started.

The Vicsport Innovation Lab is a new offering from Vicsport, supported by VicHealth. The aim of the lab is to assist organisations with the development of new ideas to increase participation in sport or recreation by less active Victorians.

Expanding on the innovation processes promoted in the successful Forward Thinking Series and popular Sport Jam workshops, the program sees Vicsport consultants lead participating organisations through a series of workshops and activities to develop customer-centric ideas.

Vicsport has recently commenced two Innovation Lab partnerships:

City of Casey

The mission for the project with the City of Casey is:

How might we recruit and train Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) women to lead physical activity programs, so that less active women from CALD backgrounds are more active?

Project partners include the Centre for Multicultural Youth and the Southern Migrant and Refugee Centre.

Jude Glenny, Leisure Activation Coordinator from the City of Casey, is excited about the project.

“Having completed a Sports Jam workshop in 2019 where I learnt the value and benefits of the full ideation process, I’m excited that we are now able to actively apply this process in a real way for real people! Ultimately it will make a difference for a special cohort of women in Casey."

Ice Sports Victoria

As the peak body for four ice sports- ice hockey, figure skating, ice racing and curling, ISV will work with Vicsport to consider:

How might we create a 'tribe' led, amazing experience across all forms of ice sports, so that participation by people with disability (PWD) increases?

The project will focus on the customer experience journey for people with disability across all ice sports.

The Vicsport Innovation Lab would not be possible without the support of VicHealth, who suggested the creation of the program to assist sport organisations to develop more evidence-based, ready to go ideas for funding proposals.

“VicHealth is excited to see these new projects underway," said Chris Lacey, Manager Physical Activity and Sport at VicHealth.

"The Vicsport Innovation Labs are a unique way to develop and refine innovative ideas to get Victorians more active. We look forward to seeing how the projects progress.”
