Vicsport joins forces with Proud 2 Play

Vicsport is pleased to announce a partnership with Proud 2 Play, an organisation focused on increasing LGBTI+ engagement in sport, exercise and active recreation.

Envisioning a world in which all LGBTI+ folk are leading active, healthy lifestyles and feeling safe and confident to do so in welcoming and inclusive environments, Proud 2 Play works with all levels of the sporting community to achieve their goal.

They aim to encourage participation by providing structured opportunities and pathways for athletes, volunteers, coaches and officials while also promoting the physical, mental and social benefits of sport and active recreation.

“We are extremely excited to now be formally working closely with Vicsport. This is a great step forward in putting LGBTI+ inclusion on the radar of all the organisations that Vicsport represent and will extend the reach of our work within the sector,” said Proud 2 Play CEO, Christine Granger.

Vicsport will assist Proud 2 Play in achieving these outcomes, supporting their values and connecting them with more SSAs while remaining an active member of the Rainbow Sports Alliance. The Vicsport website will also be updated to include relevant information and links to LGBTI+ resources and support.

An Australian-first, the Rainbow Sports Alliance is a Proud 2 Play facilitated working group featuring sporting organisations (including Gymnastics Victoria, Football Victoria, Netball Victoria, Cricket Victoria and Hockey Victoria) working collaboratively to enhance inclusion across the Victorian sporting landscape.

“Proud 2 Play provide vital education to help equip clubs, associations and individuals involved in the sport and active recreation sector with the capacity to promote LGBTI+ inclusion and Vicsport is proud to support their vision,” said Vicsport CEO, Lisa Hasker.

Vicsport would like to thank VicHealth for their support of this partnership.
