LEAP 2019 ~ Lead, Engage, Achieve, Promote

Recently, the 2019 LEAP program finished up with a final day of learning, and a graduation ceremony which included presentations on promoting women in sport.

The LEAP program focuses on developing the talent and leadership skills of female administrators in sport.

In partnership with the State Government of Victoria, the LEAP program inspires female sport administrators to reach their full potential and leadership capabilities.

In 2019, 22 women working in sport related roles in state sporting organisations, professional sports teams and local councils, took part in the program. The impressive group of women approached the course with energy and enthusiasm and got the most from all aspects of the course.

The program took place over four days across four months, with the first two days being intensive with an overnight stay.

The LEAP program is based on developing the following capacity and capability in participants:

  • Personal and group leadership capability.
  • Creating an interactive network of leading women who are supportive of themselves, each other and those who follow them.
  • Foster an environment of collaboration and sharing of the unique challenges women face in the sector, with a proactive, solutions based approach.
  • Develop the capability of participants to promote their abilities/skills.

The 2019 LEAP program was facilitated by Alison Crabb and Lyndall Russell from Mad4Leaders. Alison and Lyndall presented course content, activities, scenarios and support to enable participants to learn about themselves and forge their leadership style.

The graduation presentations included the following topics: Board quotas, a toolkit for female friendly clubs, Women in outdoor recreation, Women in leadership, and How to engage men in more positive conversations around gender equity. The LEAP participants worked in groups to investigate each topic and work on content and presentations between each LEAP session.

Congratulations to all LEAP graduates. We are now looking forward to the 2020 LEAP course.
