Last Year's Heroes - Sport and Recreation Spatial

Collecting strong evidence-based data is imperative to making good decisions and in the sporting industry, this goes without saying when it comes to discovering new methods to increase participation.

This week we celebrate the work of Sport and Recreation Spatial for their collaborative programs with Victoria University and Federation University to boost participation in sport across the state.

Sport and Recreation Spatial were recognised for their research, strategic planning, and implementation of participation programs through a variety of sports in Victoria.

A primary focus of the company is to research participation levels and trends and observe any influences that may prevent people from participating in sport in a variety of age groups.

Associate Professor and Director of Sport and Recreation Spatial Rochelle Eime says;

“We have access to over one million sport records across 12 major sports in Victoria to gather research. We’ve been working in this space since 2004 and have seen a great deal of change in participation methods in the time”.

“We continue to see a drop off rate in adolescents and children playing sport in metro areas but at the same time we’re seeing an increase in participation rates in rural areas”.

Nominations for the 2017 Victorian Sport Awards are now open. If there is an organisation that has made a significant impact on how sport is developed within your community, nominate them for the Victorian Sport Development Initiative of the Year Ward. Nominations forms can be found here and close on 15 January 2018.
