Thunderstorm Asthma

On November 22, 2016 over 1,900 calls were made to Ambulance Victoria of "thunderstorm asthma".

With summer around the corner, thunderstorm asthma is a real threat to sporting clubs playing outdoors.

Here's what you need to know about thunderstorm asthma and what to do if you have it.

Thunderstorm asthma can trigger respiratory problems by causing particles of pollen that are normally too big to enter the airways to explode.

A sudden change in weather conditions on a hot a windy day will increase the pollen count and with an incoming storm, the pollen absorbs the moisture and ultimately bursts.
