Vale - The Hon. Frank Noel Wilkes. AM

Vicsport is saddened by the news of the passing of former Vicsport Chairman and Director the Hon. Frank Wilkes AM.

Frank served admirably as Vicsport Chairman from 1988-1998 and after stepping down, continued on as a Director until 2004 where he provided, in the words of former Chairman John Howie, “great leadership and direction to Vicsport”.  During his 17 years with Vicsport Frank created a legacy, playing an integral role in the growth and development of the organisation.

Frank’s son-in-law Ian Buckingham also served as a Director of Vicsport for nine years including four as Chairman.

An illustrious career saw Frank play a key role in Victorian sport and politics, serving as the Victorian opposition leader for Labor from 1977 – 1981 and as the elected leader of Northcote from 1957 – 1988.  Frank was also a key contributor in a number of sporting organisations including the MCG as a trustee, and the Victorian Institute of Sport as Deputy Chairman.

Vicsport expresses its deepest condolences to Frank’s family and would like to acknowledge the breadth of work he undertook in his life. The sporting industry is extremely grateful for the work of Frank Wilkes.

Hon. Frank Wilkes 16/07/1922 – 21/08/2015
